A+ Services is designing the relocation of approximately 4,000 LF of 42” water transmission main along SH 3 at the intersection of State Highway 146. The relocation of GCWA’s existing 42” bar wrap transmission line was a result of conflicts with TxDOT’s proposed highway expansion project, which pose a risk to the existing WL and hinder GCWA’s ability to maintain and service the pipe. Major challenges included (1) coordination of construction schedule with TxDOT highway expansion construction and easement acquisition schedule, (2) performing wet connections to the existing 42” WL within a limited time frame to minimize water loss to GCWA’s customers, (3) mitigation impacts to existing wetlands inside project limits, (4) crossing of multiple pipeline crossings. A+ Services successfully identified alignment alternatives that minimize impacts to TxDOT construction and reduced the number of easements required to replace the WL.
